Mathioya constituency
Mathioya constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya located in Murang’a County. It is one of the 7 constituencies in Murang’a. It comprises of three wards namely Kiru, Kamacharia and Gitugi ward all electing a member of County Assembly to the Murang’a County Assembly. It has 4 Divisions, 14 locations and 25 Sub-Locations. According to 2019 Population and Housing census, Mathioya had a total population of 92,814 (Ninety-two thousand, eight hundred and fourteen.) It covers an area of 178 sq KM.
Mathioya has a total of 58,102 registered voters and 110 polling stations. The constituency code is 105. The constituency prides itself with the great River Mathioya after which the constituency is named. The river is a great tourist attraction site.
Mathioya constituency has a steeply hilly topography and a climate suitable mainly for tea productions, although there are pockets of coffee plantation.
The lower part of Mathioya constituency also grows macadamia nuts while the upper part which is much cooler due to the proximity to the Aberdare ranges grows pears and plums. It's endowed with great agricultural potential and magnificent natural features that enhance the serenity and the beauty at the slopes of Aberdare Ranges.
